Providing safe mobility for the entire family has always been at the core of Grab’s mission.
Late last year, we launched Grab for Family. This new feature allows one person to create a Family Account on Grab, add other members, and then book and pay for rides on behalf of everyone in the group.
We created this to make it easier for Grab users to take care of their loved ones. Think of elderly parents, for example. They might require rides but are less tech-savvy and reluctant to book by themselves.
Today, we’re opening up Grab for Family to a whole new generation: teenagers. Parents of teens know of the struggle of shuttling their kids to appointments and afterschool events.
With the new teens experience in Grab for Family, teens can book their own rides and pursue their daily activities independently, while parents can have peace of mind with our many enhanced safety features.
This is a first of its kind in Southeast Asia.
As a parent, you can invite and approve your teenagers to join the Grab for Families group via phone number or invite link.
As the Family Account Admin, you can then book and pay for your teens’ rides. You can monitor their ride and get an alert if your Teen Member has activated Emergency Help. You can reach the driver anytime with a three-way chat between yourself, your teenager, and the driver.
Teens can also independently book their own rides, which are then tracked and paid for via the shared Grab for Family account. Top-rated driver-partners with proven track records will also be prioritised for rides booked under the teens experience
We also added new safety features for additional protection:
Ride PIN verification
When the driver arrives, they’ll give the teen a unique Ride PIN to enter on their phone before the trip can start. It’s a quick safety check to make sure they’re in the right car.
Always-on AudioProtect
AudioProtect, a safety feature which is proven to deter incidents, is turned on by default for all teen rides. Audio Protect records audio from the ride, stores it safely on the passenger and drivers’ phones for a few days after the ride. These audio files can only be assessed if a safety incident has been reported.
Age-appropriate experience
Teen accounts will not be able to purchase age-restricted products across our verticals, such as alcohol, and they will have a filtered ads experience to ensure they don’t encounter inappropriate content.
Now, millions of parents can rest easy knowing their teens can get around safely even when they’re busy.
