Arriving at an airport always comes with a dose of stress. You have to make your way out of the terminal, collect luggage, and organise a ride to your destination. This can feel like a hassle, whether you’ve just returned home from a holiday, or touched down in a foreign city for a business trip.

With our latest update to Grab’s Advance Booking feature, we hope to make things easier for travellers.

Reducing uncertainty

Many Grab users are already familiar with our Advance Booking option. Instead of relying on Grab’s instant match-making, you can set the desired pick-up time in advance. It takes some uncertainty off your plate.

Currently, over 50 per cent of Grab’s Advance Bookings are rides to the airport. It’s clear that this feature is already a hit with travellers. What we needed to do is improve the experience when it comes to pickup from the airport.

We took in our user’s top requests and created an updated airport pickup experience, which users can access within the Advance Booking feature.

So what does the new experience look like?

Flight information integration

One of the biggest upgrades we’ve made to Advance Booking for airport pick up is flight information integration.

At the time you create a booking, simply enter your arrival date and flight number. 

We’ll track your flight status and adjust the pickup time dynamically based on real-time flight updates! This ensures that drivers can accommodate delays without causing additional stress or charges for passengers.

Recommended pickup time

As part of the enhanced user experience, the newly introduced airport pickup booking interface will recommend a suitable pickup time based on your needs upon arrival for the specific airport. For example, if you know the airport is small, and you only have carry-on luggage, you can choose to have a driver waiting for you 30 minutes after touch-down.

For a user who wants more control for their pickup time, they can always set one based on their own preferences. 

The app’s user interface will remind you at what time the driver is expecting you, and it will help you find the pick up spot with a step-by-step visual guide.

Ready to pickup

To prevent congestion at the designated pickup point, our drivers are on standby near the airport. Users simply need to tap on a button to signal their readiness to be picked up. Once selected, our drivers will be notified to make their way to the user. 

Operational efficiency

Since launching Advance Booking for Airport Pickup in pilot airport terminals, we’re happy to see a measurable improvement in reliability, outperforming the already high standards of the Advance Booking feature.

By providing reliable, pre-arranged rides, we hope Grab will become a preferred option for travellers in the region, setting the tone for an enjoyable experience across Southeast Asian airports.
