How Telematics helps you become a safer driver

The Telematics program by GrabRentals uses a combination of machine learning and analytics to identify unsafe driving events. The data is collected whenever the vehicle is in use. 

You will then receive a Safety Score Report, which aims to give you access to insights about your driving patterns, provides you with a comparative measure against other drivers, and highlights opportunities for improvements that will go a long way to building safer roads for all.

The Driving Safety Report consists of 2 components:

  1. Safety Score
    This is an aggregated score based on driving events such as harsh braking, harsh cornering, speeding, and harsh acceleration. This provides you with a comparative measure against other GrabRentals drivers.
  2. Improvement Detail
    A more detailed view which highlights opportunities for improvements on the road. It is meant to ensure that you are aware of your driving patterns on the road.

Through the use of Telematics, this program uses a combination of machine learning and analytics to provide you with insights on how safe your driving is.

All drivers will have to complete a mandatory safety video training, so that they are aligned with our safety commitment.

All of our vehicles have been fitted with a safety decal at the passenger seat window, to alert passengers to watch out for oncoming traffic before alighting.

Protection

To put your mind at ease, all vehicles rented under GrabRentals come with comprehensive maintenance and servicing packages included. Our strong partnership from the automotive industry will ensure operational excellence and ensure high quality service for drivers.

As a general rule of thumb, send your vehicle for basic servicing with every 10,000 km mileage clocked or every 6 months, whichever comes first.

Differences from the Driving Safety Report provided by Grab

  • The Driving Safety Report by Grab collects data from the Grab driver application. This means that any other driving behaviours that occur when you are not using the Grab driver application will not be recorded.
  • The GrabRentals telematics system however, collects information on the level of safe driving whenever the vehicle is in use.

What to do when things go wrong?

Should anything go wrong, do know that we’ll always be there to help, every step of the way.

Stay calm during an accident, and refer to the decal on your windscreen and contact your assigned authorised accident reporting unit for emergency assistance.

COVID-19 has dealt an unprecedented blow to the tourism industry, affecting the livelihoods of millions of workers. One of them was Komsan, an assistant chef in a luxury hotel based in the Srinakarin area.

As the number of tourists at the hotel plunged, he decided to sign up as a GrabFood delivery-partner to earn an alternative income. Soon after, the hotel ceased operations.

Komsan has viewed this change through an optimistic lens, calling it the perfect opportunity for him to embark on a fresh journey after his previous job. Aside from GrabFood deliveries, he now also picks up GrabExpress jobs. It can get tiring, having to shuttle between different locations, but Komsan finds it exciting. And mostly, he’s glad to get his income back on track.
