Grab Thailand Marks a Milestone in its “Grab EV” Programme with New Strategic Partnerships

.

Grab Thailand has announced a significant achievement in its Grab EV programme, with over 10,000 electric vehicles (EVs) now being used by drivers and riders on its platform. To further accelerate the transition to EVs, Grab has partnered with five new collaborators — SUSCO, Whale EV, AGEWAY, SHARGE, and Spark EV. Key initiatives under this expanded collaboration include advancing the Drive-to-Own model, which enables Grab drivers to lease BYD Seal EVs starting at THB 1,010 per day. Additionally, Grab has introduced the Aion ES to its electric taxis rental model, offering exclusive discounts and special privileges for EV charging at over 600 stations nationwide.

Worachat Luxkanalode, Country Head of Grab Thailand, commented, “Following our ambitious goal of transitioning the driver fleet to EVs, our Grab EV programme is now entering its third year, showcasing our commitment to supporting the government’s clean energy policy and contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the region. Today, more than 10,000 drivers and riders are providing ride-hailing and delivery services using electric cars and motorbikes across the country, with a strong presence in key provinces such as Bangkok, Phuket, Chonburi, Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima, Khon Kaen, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Udon Thani, and Ubon Ratchathani.”

“One of the key factors behind the success of the programme is the strong network of partners across various sectors, including EV manufacturers, rental providers, financial institutions, and infrastructure providers such as charging station operators. These partners have been instrumental  in making EV adoption more accessible to our drivers. To further advance the programme, we have joined hands with five new partners—SUSCO, Whale EV, AGEWAY, Sharge, and Spark EV— who will help overcome limitations and provide additional solutions to better serve the needs of our  drivers,” Worachat added.

Here are the key highlights of expanded collaboration with new strategic partners.

  • “Drive-to-Own” Model: In collaboration with SUSCO, a leading EV financing provider, Grab offers drivers an accessible pathway to EV ownership. Loans will be granted based on their performance history with the platform. Drivers can lease BYD Seal Dynamic, Premium, and AWD Performance models, with daily payments starting at THB 1,010, which will be deducted directly from their earnings. The lease term spans five years, with no down payment required. Additional benefits include an 8-year or 160,000 km battery warranty, free periodic maintenance, motor insurance (Class 1), and 24/7 roadside assistance throughout the lease period.
  • “End-to-end EV Rental” Model: Grab has partnered with Whale EV and AGEWAY to expand its electric taxi rental offerings. This includes the Aion ES model as an additional option, alongside the existing MG EP fleet. Since its pilot launch in June 2024, over 400 Aion ES vehicles have been deployed,  receiving positive feedback from drivers.
  • Exclusive Charging Station Benefits: Grab has expanded its collaborations with Sharge and Spark EV to provide drivers access to over 600 charging stations nationwide. Key benefits include a special charging rate of THB 5.84 per unit (down from the usual rate of THB 7.5–9.5 per unit) at ReverSharger* stations, as well as THB 1,000 charging vouchers for 1,000 drivers at Spark EV stations, available until the end of February.

“Promoting EV adoption is a key component of Grab’s sustainability strategy under the GrabForGood mission, which strives to create a positive impact for both society and the environment. Our efforts extend beyond partnerships, with a focus on educating drivers and users about the advantages of EVs. The overwhelming response—highlighted by a significant increase in EV drivers and a threefold** rise in the opt-in for the Grab EV Rides feature— demonstrates the growing acceptance of EVs. This reinforces our commitment to promoting clean energy and sustainable technology for a better future for all,” Worachat concluded.
