Grab Teams Up with BMA and Boom Panadda to Launch ‘Safe City with Grab’ Campaign

.

Grab Thailand, in partnership with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the Goodness Foundation, has launched the “Safe City with Grab” campaign to enhance public safety and prevent sexual harassment. The initiative aligns with BMA’s “Good safety” policy, which focuses on reducing crime, accidents, and public hazards.

The campaign encourages Grab drivers to take part in enhancing community safety through three key initiatives: #PinTheRisk, an activity that encourages them to report high-risk locations via the Traffy Fondue app; Sexual Harassment Prevention, an awareness initiative featuring online training through GrabAcademy led by the Founder of the Goodness Foundation Panadda Wongphudee, to educate drivers on recognizing and responding to harassment situations; and Safety Technology Enhancements, highlighting the development of in-car cameras and an SOS button to increase peace of mind for both passengers and drivers.

Chadchart Sittipunt, Bangkok Governor, commented, “The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is committed to building a safer, more secure city  where people feel protected at all times. Through our ‘Good Safety’ policy, we are strengthening crime prevention efforts and enhancing urban safety with a focus on three key areas: improving street lighting in public spaces, developing risk maps to help citizens navigate safer routes, and expanding CCTV surveillance to enhance citywide monitoring and improve overall security. In the 2024 fiscal year, BMA has already improved 177 high-risk locations across the city.”

“Our partnership with Grab further reinforces this commitment by empowering drivers to identify and report risk spots actively. This collaboration plays a crucial role in supporting our ‘Illuminating Bangkok’ initiative, addressing urban lighting challenges, enhancing infrastructure, and encouraging greater public participation in crime prevention—helping to create a safer city for everyone.”

Maythinee Anavachkul, Director of Mobility at Grab Thailand, added, “Safety is at the core of Grab’s business, which is why we continue to invest in safety technology and implement rigorous safety standards across our platform. Beyond ensuring the safety of passengers and drivers, Grab is committed to promoting broader safety initiatives in society, including road safety and the prevention of sexual harassment–issues that require collective efforts from all sectors.”

“This year, we’ve launched the ‘Safe City with Grab’ campaign in collaboration with BMA and the Goodness Foundation, allowing our drivers to play an active role in enhancing community safety. As they are constantly on the road and interact with a diverse range of people, they serve as extra eyes and ears in identifying and reporting safety concerns. This campaign reaffirms our commitment to leveraging technology and empowering our drivers to build a safer and more livable society for all.”

Key initiatives under the “Safe City with Grab” campaign include:

#PinTheRisk, Creating a Safer Bangkok: Grab partners with BMA to empower Grab drivers across Bangkok and surrounding areas to identify and report high-risk locations, including dark streets and alleys, malfunctioning pedestrian signals, and isolated areas near residential communities. Drivers can capture images of these potentially dangerous spots and submit them via Traffy Fondue, enabling BMA officials to assess and take corrective actions. To date, Grab drivers have already reported over 100 dark spots, contributing to a safer urban environment.

  • Sexual Harassment Prevention: Grab, in partnership with Dr. Panadda ‘Boom’ Wongphudee, has developed an educational video on GrabAcademy to raise awareness about sexual harassment and equip Grab drivers with the knowledge to identify risk and support individuals in need. The video provides practical guidance on recognizing potentially harmful behaviors and responding to situations safely and appropriately.

Enhancing Safety Technology for Passengers and Drivers: Grab continues to strengthen its safety measures with key in-app features such as the Safety Centre, which allows users to request emergency assistance; Share My Ride, which enables passengers to share their real-time locations with friends and family, and Audio Protect, which enables both drivers and passengers to record audio during the ride. This year, Grab is developing new IoT devices, including the  SOS button and KartaDashcam in vehicles, to enhance safety and provide greater peace of mind for drivers and passengers. The devices will be prioritised for the GrabCar for Ladies service, reinforcing Grab’s commitment to leveraging technology for a safer ride experience.
