Over RM1 Million and Counting: Grab Users Support MERCY Malaysia’s Relief Efforts

Funds raised on the Grab platform to contribute to MERCY Malaysia’s flood relief and humanitarian aid

Grab Malaysia is proud to announce that over RM1 million in donations have been raised in support of MERCY Malaysia since November 2023. The milestone is a testament to the collective efforts of Grab, its users, and partners in rallying together, helping to fund major relief and rehabilitation efforts by the organisation.

The funds raised include voluntary donations from Grab users via GrabPay and GrabRewards, which were matched by Grab Malaysia. Additionally, Grab Malaysia partnered with Mastercard, who contributed 1% of the GrabFood order value for orders amounting to RM30 and above. The total amount also includes a pledge of RM200,000 through the GrabForGood Fund.

Commenting on the initiative, Adelene Foo, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia, said, “As a homegrown brand, we want to continue to engage and uplift communities that are underserved and in need. Our initiative with MERCY Malaysia is an extension of this. Our users have shown immense generosity, and their contributions are making a real difference in the lives of those affected by the floods. We’re proud to leverage our tech innovations to amplify this positive impact, making it more convenient and accessible for Malaysians to contribute to their community.”

The contributions collected will be used to fund relief efforts both across Malaysia as well as providing aid to those communities affected by conflict.

#BantuanBanjir Flood Relief Fund

Since 2021, Grab Malaysia has been collaborating with MERCY Malaysia on the #BantuanBanjir campaign, supporting the rehabilitation of communities impacted by the floods across Malaysia. This includes providing immediate aid such as food, clean water, and essential supplies. Moreover, contributions collected will also be used to acquire the raw materials and manpower needed to restore the infrastructure of the area, helping to rebuild homes, schools as well as repairing sewerage systems.

During a recent volunteer initiative in Kampung Kuala Jengal, Terengganu, the Grab team had the privilege of meeting Puan Sepiah, one of the many recipients of the #BantuanBanjir campaign. She shared that her home, which is near a river, was severely affected by the floods. The team was on ground, together with driver- and delivery-partners to help clean the surroundings of her house and rebuild parts of her home which were destroyed by the floods.

Humanitarian Aid

Expanding beyond the #BantuanBanjir campaign, Grab Malaysia collaborated with MERCY Malaysia in 2023 on their humanitarian aid and support. This initiative extends vital aid to those impacted by conflict and crisis around the world. The funds raised will support a range of support activities, including food and water distribution, mental health support, medical aid, and contribute to the setting-up and operationalization of Medical Points.

Through these efforts, the funds raised will not only provide immediate relief but also contribute to sustainable recovery and resilience in the affected communities.

Dato’ Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, President of MERCY Malaysia of MERCY Malaysia said, “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity Malaysians have shown and appreciate Grab’s support in our on-going flood aid and humanitarian aid in this critical time of need. We look forward to further collaborations with Grab Malaysia – strengthening our emergency response and reach for affected communities.”
