Grab Malaysia Unveils GrabScholar with Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman (YTAR) and GoBarakah

Aims to democratise education by offering scholarships and bursaries to over 300 deserving Malaysian students.

Grab Malaysia, in collaboration with Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman (YTAR) and GoBarakah, launches GrabScholar. An extension of its GrabForGood focus and supported by the GrabForGood Fund, GrabScholar aims to democratise education by offering scholarships and bursaries to over 300 deserving Malaysian students.

Commenting on its introduction, Adelene Foo, Managing Director of Grab Malaysia, says, “Education is an essential catalyst for intergenerational mobility and societal transformation. With the introduction of GrabScholar, we’re amplifying our commitment to empowering all Malaysians, no matter their background, in their educational journey. Through GrabScholar, we want to reach out to those in need, providing much needed assistance while offering them opportunities to elevate their socio-economic status. This initiative transcends mere financial aid; it’s an investment in the future of our nation.”

University Scholarships with Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman (YTAR)

In a strategic partnership with YTAR, GrabScholar will provide university scholarships for students pursuing degrees – specifically in sustainability, business, and STEM fields at all public universities across Malaysia. These scholarships encompass full tuition fees, allowances, internship opportunities as well as a unique 2-year leadership development programme.

“We are thrilled to partner with Grab Malaysia on their GrabScholar initiative. We believe that for the nation to truly thrive, there is a need for an equitable and diverse society. This partnership to provide comprehensive scholarships will allow us to empower more high-potential and deserving youth with the skills, resources, and resilience to shape better futures for themselves, their communities, and Malaysia,” said Ida Thien, Chief Executive Officer at Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman (YTAR).

School expenses aid with GoBarakah

In alliance with GoBarakah, GrabScholar will extend one-time financial assistance to 300 primary and secondary school students across Malaysia, easing the financial strain of school-related expenses on their families. This initiative underscores Grab’s unwavering commitment to bolstering education at all levels.

At GoBarakah, we believe in the power of community support and the difference it can make in the lives of individuals. This bursary programme allows us to extend our reach and help more families ease the financial burden of education. Together with Grab, we are committed to making a positive impact on the lives of students and their families across Malaysia,” said Azrin Ajib, co-founder at GoBarakah.

The GrabForGood Fund was established in line with Grab’s overall mission to drive economic empowerment for everyone, with a focus on contributing to causes that tackle issues of inequality, access, and climate change across the region. The fund primarily supports programmes under three main pillars – partner community care, education and climate and disaster relief – not only benefitting Grab partners but also the wider community.

The application deadline for the GrabScholar University Scholarship is 22 July 2024, while applications for school aid bursaries will remain open until 31 July 2024.
