Don’t let the rain get you down 🌧️!

With the weather being unpredictable this time of the year, some of us might find ourselves driving in bad weather such as heavy rain or thunderstorms.
When this happens, it’s really important for drivers to know what to do. To help you prepare for these kinds of scenarios, here are a few simple pointers to keep in mind!
1. Be cautious 👀
When you’re driving in a downpour especially one with strong wind, pay extra attention to your surroundings.
Look out for debris that might be lying around like broken tree branches or garbage wastes. Chances are these things are carried by the strong wind and ended up on the road. Drive around them slowly but check your side mirrors for cars first before doing so!
2. Slow down 🐢
The slow and steady gets through bad weathers safely! When you’re caught in a heavy rain, it’s never a good idea to speed as cars tend to skid in these situations.
If you see puddles, do avoid them. Puddles are typically deeper than how they appear to be. On top of that, keep a good distance between you and the car in front. This way you’ll have room to stop in case the car ahead makes an emergency brake.
3. Find middle ground 🛣️
If you’re on the highway, you might notice that the left and right lanes will usually be flooded during rain. This is because these lanes are typically built lower than the middle one.
Do stick with the middle lane when driving while it’s pouring to stay away from all those pesky puddles!
4. Lights on 💡
Besides seeing other cars, your car also needs to be seen! Stuck in a downpour where visibility is limited? Don’t forget to turn on your headlights so that other road users can see you.
However, don’t turn on your hazard lights! These lights indicate that your vehicle has stopped and this might confuse other drivers on the road. It’s dangerous too, as you won’t be able to indicate if you’re changing lanes.
Last but not least, if the weather’s too dangerous for you to drive, do pull over at the nearest R&R or petrol station and wait it out. Remember, your loved ones are waiting at home! ❤️
