Yangon, Myanmar, 17 July 2020 – Grab, the leading everyday app in Southeast Asia, has launched GrabMart, a new on-demand grocery delivery service, in Yangon. GrabMart provides consumers convenience in purchasing various consumer goods, including groceries, home essentials, health and beauty items as well as gifts directly from hundreds of Yangon shops through the Grab App. Each GrabMart delivery will be made under one hour and can be tracked live from start to finish.
The launch of GrabMart is timely given the growing adoption and reliance on delivery services among people in the country during the ongoing pandemic. Grab’s food delivery service, GrabFood, serves meals to thousands of people daily and with GrabMart, consumers can now order daily essentials for their home or office, or for their loved ones without any hassle.
“COVID-19 has accelerated the adoption of on-demand delivery services in Yangon, allowing Grab to tap on existing technologies, its extensive delivery network, and operational footprint to launch GrabMart. In a post-COVID-19 normal, we anticipate demand for delivery services to remain elevated. We will continue to double down on expanding our GrabMart service to support consumers’ shopping needs, as well as to create more income opportunities for our delivery-partners and grow income opportunities for small and medium-sized retail businesses,” said Cindy Toh, Country Head of Grab Myanmar.
GrabMart’s growing list of store merchant partners includes neighbourhood mini-marts and specialty merchants offering pharmaceutical products, packaged consumer goods and fresh produce.
GrabMart includes an “Essentials” shop established in partnership with G&G, Myanmar’s leading convenience store chain. Under this partnership, people from 11 Yangon townships – Kamayut, Dagon, Bahan, Yankin, Sanchaung, Latha, Pabedan, Kyauktada, Hlaing and South Mayangone – will have easy access to thousands of brand name essential items. They can order milk and dairy products, bread, instant noodles, snacks, as well as beverages such as water, juices, sodas and alcoholic beverages.
GrabMart’s store merchant partners now benefit from a new online customer base, increased revenue opportunities, and access to Grab’s technology platform to manage order transactions. They also enjoy the benefit of GrabMart’s marketing power to attract new customers and sell products, with bundle promotions and special discounts examples of ways to increase order volume. Many more local businesses will be brought on-board the Grab platform as GrabMart store merchant partners in the coming months.
Said Mr. Gabor Dolmanyos, CEO, Capital Diamond Star Group (CDSG) Retail, which operates G&G Convenience Stores, “We are delighted to partner with GrabMart. This partnership provides us with an additional channel to reach new customers and provide another service to our existing customers. We hope that being part of a trusted single technology platform will bring greater positive impact to our relationships with valued customers.”
GrabMart does not require installation of another app as users can access the new service via the ‘Mart’ tab on the home screen of the Grab application. Users can browse the list of store merchant partners, select the preferred store, and add items into their basket. To view, change quantities or remove items, users can press ‘View Basket’. The order will be processed once the user taps on “Place Order” and sees an order confirmation message.
Consumers will benefit from the promise of home deliveries under one hour, especially during the ongoing rainy season. After an order is placed, Grab users can use features in the Grab App such as Live Order Tracking, direct messaging and calls with delivery-partners. They can also contact Grab’s 24/7 Customer Experience team for assistance should the need arise.
To help Grab users comply with the requirement to wear a face mask in public, GrabMart is offering a special promotion of a MMK 100 delivery fee on certified 3-ply medical masks using the promo code ‘MASKS’.
To date, Grab has launched GrabMart across 50 cities in Southeast Asia, in partnership with over 3,000 supermarkets and convenience stores. GrabMart is now available in all eight countries that Grab is present in – Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia and Myanmar.
