Grab Launches GrabRemorque Beta In Phnom Penh For Hyperlocal Travel Experiences And To Increase Digital Market Inclusion for Remorque Drivers
- Grab continues to localize transport services, offering passengers more travel options
- Cooperation with Royal Cambodian Government to improve traffic and commuting
- The new service will help remorque driver-partners move into the digital economy
Phnom Penh, June 28, 2018 – Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading online-to-offline mobile platform, today announced the beta launch of GrabRemorque, a motorcycle trailer service to be included in the popular app’s services in Phnom Penh. The announcement was made at a meeting graced by His Excellency Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, and hosted by His Excellency Hun Many, President of the Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC), His Excellency Say Sam Al, Head of Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia Phnom Penh Branch, and Mr. E Sophors, President of Cambodia Confederation Development Association (CCDA), in the presence of around 5,000 remorque and rickshaw drivers.
GrabRemorque, Grab’s newest hyperlocal transport service in the capital city, provides better and more reliable commuting experiences for passengers. It also supports the government’s efforts to drive greater digital inclusion to provide better livelihoods for driver-partners, and sustainable development by enabling more efficient traffic flows.
GrabRemorque fares are fixed and displayed upfront so there is no need to haggle over fares at the roadside. Each GrabRemorque can transport up to four passengers. Once a trip is confirmed, both passengers and their driver will be covered with a medical insurance in the unlikely event of any accident.
“Grab has employed a ‘hyperlocal strategy’ in all markets we operate in, including Cambodia. Today, we connect millions of local and regional travelers who use Grab daily for their preferred local services. With GrabRemorque, we are enabling more people – local and tourists – explore Cambodia in the local style, by offering a professional remorque experience. GrabRemorque driver-partners have all undergone driver trainings on road safety and app usage,” said Chandara Veung, Acting Country Head of Grab Cambodia.
Since the launch of Grab Cambodia in late 2017, the company has expanded its services in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap rapidly, adapting local transportation options and offering more digital market opportunities for drivers. Grab today cooperates with over 6.6 million micro-entrepreneurs across 217 cities in 8 Southeast Asian countries. The online-to-offline (O2O) platform has become the app of choice for more than 100 million users for their daily essential needs such as efficient transport, package and food delivery, and mobile payments.
“The Ministry of Public Works & Transport is glad that Grab has provided a special assistance program for the CCDA (Cambodia for Confederation Development Association) which also oversees the most sizeable Tuk Tuk Association in the capital city of Phnom Penh. That special assistance program of a 6 month duration would hopefully help out traditional remorque drivers migrate onto the Grab platform and move forward to a more sustainable subsistence mean for more passengers through Grab Application and training ” said H.E. Sun Chanthol, Sr. Minister & Minister of Public Works & Transport.
“Technology enhances the livelihood of people. Grab’s mission is to improve lives and to offer solutions for a better future. We welcome drivers and passengers to be a part of this transition towards the future, and to open the next chapter of Cambodia’s development with us,” added Veung. “We are grateful for the chance to support the Cambodian government in improving traffic and congestion, and as always we are thankful to the MPWT’s ongoing partnership with us, and the wonderful support we’ve received from the UFYC and the CCDA on GrabRemorque’s launch.”
