Phnom Penh, March 23rd, 2018 – Grab, Southeast Asia’s leading on-demand transportation and fintech platform, now officially launches GrabBike, an on-demand motorcycle service, in Phnom Penh. Following more than 2 months of beta-testing in central business districts of Phnom Penh, GrabBike service will be available city-wide by April 2018.

The official launch of GrabBike is in line with the company’s hyperlocal strategy, which aims to support local travel options that are preferred by locals, and make them safe, affordable and easily accessible through the Grab app.

“Motorcycle taxis have been a traditional and popular way of getting around Phnom Penh for decades,” said Wee Tang Yee, Country Head of Grab Cambodia. “Introducing the GrabBike service on our platform is an assurance for safer and more convenient travel for both motorcycle taxi drivers and passengers. We will apply our rigorous safety processes and learnings from across the region to enhance motorcycle taxi services in Cambodia.”

Grab users can now opt to use GrabBike for more speedy travel and reach their desired destination faster. GrabBike is also available in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam.

Grab’s fixed fare model is also applied to GrabBike, which makes motorcycle travel haggle-free and more convenient. With rides starting at 1500KHR and each extra kilometer being charged at only 1000KHR (USD 0.25), GrabBike is another affordable on-demand transport option for Cambodians.

Safety continues to be Grab’s main priority. Not only are GrabBike drivers required to attend a driver training, they also have to provide their passengers with a helmet and ensure it is worn. With GrabBike, motorcycle taxi passengers can travel with more peace of mind as all Grab rides are covered by personal accident insurance for both them and their drivers.

Potential GrabBike drivers can register directly at the Grab office if they are at least 18 years of age, have a national ID card, the ownership card of their vehicle and a driving license. All types of motorbikes are allowed as long as they are in safe operating conditions and able to comfortably carry a passenger.

Grab is also beta-testing 2 new hyperlocal services; GrabTukTuk in Phnom Penh and GrabRemorque in Siem Reap. From April 13 to 16, 2018, Grab is sponsoring the Angkor Sankranta, a 4-day giant festival celebrating Khmer New Year at the Angkor Archaeological Park. Interested parties and individuals can visit Grab’s booth at the festival to try this new service and learn more about Grab’s new services.
