Jakarta, 25 April 2019 – Are you a movie freak? You will likely be used to the competition of getting a ticket for tent pole movies like “Avengers: Endgame”. However, you may also have experienced sold out box offices because you did not have time to buy them. We all know how disappointing it is to be the last to watch the most-anticipated movie of all time!
Fret no more, Grab is introducing the Tickets tile in the app for customers in Indonesia. As the leading everyday super app in Southeast Asia, Grab always offers solutions to make users’ lives more #AutoGampang (auto-convenient) with only one application. Everything from food, goods, and grocery delivery services to video-on-demand and shared, seamless and smart transportation options are all available via the Grab app. Thus, the Tickets tile will complete Grab as an everyday super app.
Based on data from PWC (2017), the entertainment and media sectors are targeted to grow by more than 40% in 2021 to US$ 64.5 billion[1]. In addition, Indonesia has become the 15th largest box-office market with large screens numbering 1,700, which are expected to continue to grow to more than 3,000 in the next three years[2].
“We realize that there is a big potential in the entertainment sector, especially in the movie industry in Indonesia. Unfortunately, users still often experience problems in buying movie tickets such as choosing a cinema and non-transparent online transaction fees as well as with ticket booking websites and their unfriendly user experiences. So the launch of the Tickets tile in the Grab app is one of our concrete steps as a Super(hero) application that is always ready to provide solutions and convenience for all Grab users in Indonesia,” said Ongki Kurniawan, Executive Director, Grab Indonesia.
The launch of the Tickets tile is the result of a collaboration between Grab and BookMyShow, one of the start-up finalists of the Grab Ventures Velocity Batch 1 programme. Through the tile, users in Indonesia will find it easier to search, compare prices and purchase tickets from some of the leading cinema chains in the country such as CGV and Cinemaxx directly from the Grab application. Users do not have to create a new account and will be able to pay seamlessly with the cashless payment method through the app. Grab plans to expand the range of inventory it offers through the Tickets tile, so users could, in future, purchase tickets to concerts or other types of events through the tile.
“Grab is at the forefront of building a sustainable ‘super-app’ ecosystem in Southeast Asia, and BookMyShow sees immense value in combining forces towards that goal. At BookMyShow, we collectively sell over 20 million tickets a month across all our markets, so we bring deep expertise in entertainment ticketing built over two decades; and we are excited by the possibilities we can achieve with Grab’s reach and our focus to re-imagine that niche in this region. This partnership is a huge development for the region and we are truly honored to be able to work with Grab, to serve customers disruptive convenience,” said Kenneth Tan, CEO & Head of Product BookMyShow Southeast Asia.
“We are very pleased to be partnering with BookMyShow to launch this latest service for our loyal users in Indonesia. The Tickets tile will provide access to entertainment services that are even more complete in the application – thus, users can more easily watch their favorite movies with the people who are closest to them. In the future, we hope to be able to provide even more varied services and continue to innovate to ease users’ daily life needs,” Ongki concluded.
More than just adding entertainment services, the Tickets tile in the Grab application is also in line with Grab’s latest campaign: “Saving the Everyday with One Super App.” Together with the Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame team, Grab will be a Super(hero) application that continues to increase in “superpowers.”
The Tickets tile will be available for Indonesian users over time. By May 2019, users will be able to purchase movie tickets through the Grab app, and therefore don’t need to worry when they want to watch their favorite movies at their favorite cinemas. Grab makes everything #AutoGampang!
