- Bringing back the goodness to those in need through the collaboration with Gerakan Mari Berbagi (GMB)
- Extending sustainable social initiatives with its year-end campaign “Delivering Happyness” to collect 20,000 items across Southeast Asia to be delivered to 7,000 underprivileged kids in Southeast Asia
Jakarta, 7 December 2016 – Grab, the leading ride-hailing platform in Southeast Asia, collaborated with Gerakan Mari Berbagi (GMB) to provide better transportation for Indonesian youths in need in rural areas. Through Sharing Bicycles for Indonesian Youth program, Grab has distributed bicycles amounted to one hundred million Rupiah to 53 recipients, across Aceh and Central Java, allowing them to conveniently reach their respective educational institutions.
Mediko Azwar, Marketing Director Grab Indonesia, said, “At Grab, we always believe that community support takes a significant part in determining our tremendous achievement. Thus, the best way to give our gratitude back to the communities is by contributing to solve local problems. The collaboration with Gerakan Mari Berbagi allows us to help providing better transportation for Indonesian youths in need by providing a simple transportation solution, bicycle. It is an initiative that is aligned with our key mission, to provide safe transportation for everyone while improving the lives of the people that we touched.”
Sharing Bicycles for Indonesian Youth program is a program initiated by Gerakan Mari Berbagi Sepeda in 2014 to help distributing bicycles for those who live in rural areas in Aceh. In June 2016, Grab took part and contributed to this program by providing bicycles to those who need to take a long trip by foot to reach their educational institutions every day.
This initiative was made possible by the participation from all Grab’s employees as they acted as Grab’s drivers to collect the donation from their earned fares. Total fares earned Grab’s employees during the Grab Freedom Day campaign on 3 February 2016, was timed ten, and amounted to around IDR100,000,000. This donation was then converted into 53 bicycles that had been handed over to respective recipient in Aceh Besar, Banda Aceh, Pidie Jaya, Lhokseumawe, North Aceh, East Aceh, Langsa, and Pati during October 2016 with the helping hand from GMB’s volunteer network.
In regards to its sustainable social initiatives, Grab will run its latest regional donation campaign. Called Delivering Happyness, the campaign is calling for members of public to get into the spirit of year-end giving. All they have to do is to round up and pack gently-used (or new!) books, clothes, stationery and toys – and then simply book a Grab to collect them from 12 to 24 December. Grab aims to collect 20,000 items across Southeast Asia, which will be delivered to 7,000 underprivileged kids in Southeast Asia.
“While people may wish to help the less fortunate, they often don’t know how, or where to start. As part of Grab’s commitment to improving lives in Southeast Asia, we’re using the Grab app to make giving as easy as possible – and in the process, deliver happiness to the children in our communities who need it most,” said Cheryl Goh, VP of Marketing, Grab.
Grab has partnered with non-profit organisations – in all six countries that Grab operates in: Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam – that focus on helping children in need. Each tackle issues unique to each country, such as helping to re-equip schools in the Philippines that were affected by a recent storm, or giving books, stationery and toys to kids in rural villages in Vietnam. In Indonesia, this campaign will be enabled through the partnership with Dilts Foundation and Lippo Malls Indonesia, focusing on the unfortunate kids in Jabodetabek areas.
