GrabTaxi launches GrabBike for safer on-demand “Ojek” rides

GrabTaxi, Southeast Asia’s dominant on-demand transport mobile app, today launched its beta trial of GrabBike, a motorcycle taxi service or better known locally as ‘ojek’, in Jakarta with free rides on offer until end of this month.

City folks invited to test the new service with free rides

JAKARTA, May 20, 2015 – GrabTaxi, Southeast Asia’s dominant on-demand transport mobile app, today launched its beta trial of GrabBike, a motorcycle taxi service or better known locally as ‘ojek’, in Jakarta with free rides on offer until end of this month. Now anyone can e-hail an ‘ojek’ that is secure with safety features such as live tracking and insurance coverage in just a few taps of a smartphone.

Safety is paramount to GrabBike. Users will be reassured to know that GrabBike adheres to the same strict safety standards that are synonymous with GrabTaxi with the focus on the three pillars of Safety, Certainty and Speed.

This latest service operates on the same platform as GrabTaxi, offering a seamless experience for those wanting the option of taxis or ‘ojek’, and fulfilling all transportation needs within one app. GrabBike is also the fast yet safe alternative option for time-starved city folks to beat Jakarta’s infamous traffic jams.

Jakarta is the third city where GrabBike is operating, after Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi in Vietnam. For this beta phase, GrabBike’s pick-up is limited to Kuningan and Setiabudi but drop-off destinations are within Jakarta. The network of pick-up areas is expected to grow in the coming weeks as the service expands. For two weeks only, GrabBike is offering free rides to all Jakarta city folks to put the service to the test.

“GrabTaxi is deeply committed to create safe and efficient transportation systems in Southeast Asia. ‘Ojek’ is a popular mode of transport here in Indonesia so it was only time before we transformed it. Passenger safety is of utmost importance to us and this extends to GrabBike too. ‘Ojek’ rides are now secure and more convenient thanks to GrabBike,” said Cheryl Goh, GrabTaxi Holding Group Vice President of Marketing.

GrabBike Promises Only Safe, Certain and Fast Rides

“GrabBike shares the same well-known safety features as GrabTaxi. This is crucial to us that our users always feel secure and trust us when they engage our services,” Goh added.

Some of the key safety features of GrabBike include live trackable rides and sending out driver’s information (name, vehicle registration number, mobile number and profile photograph) upon booking confirmation. Passengers can share their ride details in real-time with their loved ones via the Share My Ride function of the GrabTaxi app.

“The Share My Ride function gives everyone, the commuter and his dear ones, a peace of mind. At any time, we know where the commuter is and all rides are logged into our system. Should anything go wrong, we can quickly and easily track the taxi,” Goh explained.

In addition, GrabBike is also offering medical insurance for all its passengers and drivers, the first of its kind. “In the event of an accident, all parties are covered,” said Goh. GrabBike users will also be provided with helmets, face masks, hair nets and raincoats.
