Grab introduces defensive safety riding test to screen new GrabBike bikers

Grab (formerly known as GrabTaxi), the leading ride-hailing platform in Southeast Asia, today announced its defensive safety riding test for GrabBike bikers as part of a rigorous screening process for new GrabBike bikers.

JAKARTA, March 3, 2016 – Grab (formerly known as GrabTaxi), the leading ride-hailing platform in Southeast Asia, today announced its defensive safety riding test for GrabBike bikers as part of a rigorous screening process for new GrabBike bikers. This was announced in Jakarta and supported by the Indonesia Defensive Driving Center (IDDC) and Jakarta Metro Police, as part of Grab’s commitment to set safety standards higher than industry requirements.

Grab invests in safety due to the urgency to reduce traffic accidents in Indonesia. According to the World Health Organization[1], 36 per cent of fatalities due to traffic accidents in Indonesia were 2- or 3-wheeled vehicles.

“Safety has always been a priority for Grab, and will continue to be. Our commitment to safety has been translated in the features and quality of drivers delivered in the app. Raising our driver partners’ awareness on safety riding and driving is important as in the end it will help make everyone safer on the road,” said Kiki Rizki, Country Head of Marketing, Grab Indonesia.

All of GrabBike biker candidates had and will be trained on safety riding theory covering tips on how to anticipate road conditions, avoid speeding, avoid distractions while driving, and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles in traffic. There are also customized modules that covers the Grab safety code of conduct to educate GrabBike biker candidates on the expected quality of service and Grab’s safety initiatives.

Grab is committed to provide the safest transportation platform in Southeast Asia. Grab continually drives to improve the safety of its drivers and passengers by taking an end-to-end perspective, from operations to technology to driver training.

“By working hand-in-hand to implement safety traffic standard and enhance public awareness about safety riding techniques, we hope we can improve road safety and provide trusted rides. It is our mission to provide the best service and experience for all users as well as our driver partners  in the country,” Kiki concluded.
